    Please Recommend Books

    Hi,

I would shortly be working on DB2 UDB 8.1.2. I have no prior DB2
experience and need to be involved in the installation, maintainence
    and tuning of the database.

Could you please recommend the best books around which will detail how
to setup, maintain and manage DB2 databases. From the basic to the
    tuning part.

    Thanx-a-ton.

    Hi there.

    I'd recommend -

    1) The manuals (from http://www.software.ibm.com/data/db2/library)
    2) The Certification Guides

I've found other books on UDB to be very basic or lacking in
    administration help.

I'd also suggest you subscribe to DB2EUG mailing list (db2eug@lugwash .org)
    where you'll get additional help.

Finally you'll find more useful information on the IDUG website
(http://www.idug.org). Consider attending an IDUG Conference to learn a
lot and to build up a network of contacts.

The 3-volume DB2 Administrator's Guide is the appropriate reference.
For a more concise book, "Advanced DBA Certification Guide and Reference",
for DB2 UDB v8 for Linux, Unix and Windows, by Snow & Phan, is a good
bet, although I always double check anything in the official admin guide.
There is also the DB2 Data Recovery and High Availability Guide that is
good to use as a reference manual for planning backups and disaster
      recovery.

For quick lookups of specific information online, you can use the online
        information center at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/db2help/
-- it has a pretty powerful search and complete index.
