    Documentation CD for V8 ???

    Hello,

I was wondering if there is a way to get a copy of the doc CD for version 8
    without buying the full-blown product?

I have a client that bought v8, but cannot seem to find the doc CD.

I myself would also like the doc CD, but I have no licence for the product.
I occasionally get requests for help on v8, and kinda need just the doc.

    :(

You can download all the docs in PDF format here:

Go to any manual and you will be redirected to a FTP site. Go up one level
and you can download the entire directory of manuals with a decent FTP
program. Unfortunately, the names of the manuals are not understandable, so
you will need to rename them, however keep the existing files and names
because there are PDF hot links in the docs that point to them. (I really
wish IBM would change this. There is no longer an 8 byte restriction on file
    names).

Mebbe I'm doing this wrong, but it keeps forcing me to the Passport
      Advantage site.

I don't want to download the products, just the doc.

Go back to the web page I posted. Scroll down the page until you see the
individual manuals that are listed. DO NOT select the DB2 V8 Information
Center. Follow the instructions I posted about using an FTP program and
        download all the manuals.

Or go directly to ftp.software.ib m.com/ps/products/db2/info/vr8/pdf/letter
with an FTP program and download the manuals. The NLV folder contains
        foreign language versions.

If you like PDF's and printing manuals, follow Mark A's instructions. If
you prefer searches (after all, most DB2 Documentation is reference, not
something to be read linearly) try this website:

            Blair,

The PDF files can be searched with the PDF search function. I prefer it over
the web pages. The IBM created PDF documents also have hot PDF links from
the index of each manual (and the Master Index) and other references
throughout the manuals that makes it easy to search. You can put the whole
thing on a hard drive and it works even when the network is down. The PDF
files are a MUST for anyone who supports DB2 in production, at least as a
backup to network access to the web pages.

I wish more people inside IBM used the PDF files, then perhaps they would
get rid of those ridiculous 8 character file names which makes it harder to
use. One has to keep a renamed copy of the document (to identify the
document name) and the original copy of the document, because all the PDF
hot links use the 8 character file names.

              Hi Mark,

The V8 PDF's contain a valid PDF description which can be used by PDF
              utilities to create an index.
I used PDFExplorer, freeware from http://rtt.planetaclix.pt/home.htm,
to create an HTML index file for browsing the PDF's.

              regards, Gert

Gert, Thanks for the link. It might be useful for something else, but I
don't think it solves the problem I have.

The IBM PDF have very good indexes (comprehensive, but not irrelevant), and
a Master Index document. There are PDF hotlinks to the same or other IBM
manuals. So if you look at the IBM index page and click on the page number,
it goes straight to that part of the manual. There are also hotlinks many
times that one manual refers to another manual within the text. So if you
click on the link, it brings up the other PDF document with the correct page
                number.

But when looking at file manager, or the list of recently used documents in
Acrobat Reader (under the File pulldown) the filenames are all 8 characters.
If one renames the files, then the hotlinks to other manuals (especially
useful in the Master Index) only will invoke the documents files with the 8
                character names.

This would be extraordinarily easy for IBM to fix, if they could only see
                the light.
