    Hard drive not recognized

I'm dealing with an issue with my7 wife's computer. It goes through not seeing a hard drive that is connected. I've tried different SATA cables and several SATA ports on her motherboard, nothing seems to stop it. Most of the time a couple reboots fixes the issue but that's just a band-aid, I need to fix it permanently.

Anyone got any insight on this issue?

Have you looked under disk management in computer management? There could be two resources allocated to the same drive letter. Which means that only one of them can get assigned.

Tried that, nothing sharing the same drive letter found. I think the next step is to try the drive in my system and see what happens

We've experienced this problem twice. Once it was a failed drive, second time it was a dying mother board. Eventually no drive worked would work on the machine.

Your next step is the best way to test it.

Depending the system you're working on, many times the BIOS will contain a self-check for this - I have a few HP laptops and they were able to do read/write tests on the disk and help me isolate the issue when my HDD failed

Test the hard drive in other computers ( yours for example ), if he worked , the problem is in the mother board.. A dying mother board perhaps..
