How do I become an IT Consultant?

I was a network engineer at a one of the big cellular wireless companies for the last 15 years and now want more flexibility with my hours and different types of work.

I have experience with linux, windows, unix, enterprise routers, networking.

How do I transition to being a consultant helping companies with their network setup.

    Hi there,

This is what I did to become a consultant. I was hired to do a project for a company over an 8 month work term. Once the 8-month term was completed I was no longer needed as a full time employee. So I became an independent contractor and work on a contract on a as needed basis.

You could always take a look at e-lance. Maybe you can find some work and built a consulting resume.

    Good luck

Working as an IT Consultant is both challenging and rewarding. If you want to become a successful IT consultant then it’s important to identify your specialization or niche as early as possible. You've to continuously focus on your relationship with clients.
