If it's the IT I spent 25 years on, then the answer is no.

      You would need:
      1) COBOL
2)SQL (probably Oracle PS/SQL or Microsoft SQL Server)
      3) Database design theory
      4) Knowledge of IT applications: AP, AR, Inventory, MFG planning, etc.
      5) Project management a la DMR or equivalent
      7) Crystal Reports
      8) Maybe Visual Basic
      9) spreadsheet programming
      10) etc.. you know, the business-stuff

IT field is rather broad these days. You can't "enter" it all. Which type of IT do you want to do?

C knowledge might not be important to get started in IT field. Knowing the language might just get you one step ahead. I did me a great favour when i started my career in IT field. Till today i am still applying my C / C++ related knowledge.

It'll very helpful when it comes to learning Java as they both share almost same syntax as well as concept with a minor difference.

          Good luck & take care.
