    Banfas Tutorials Feedback Thread

So this may not be quite where you all wanted to start but I needed to start somewhere and I feel the beginning is as good a place as anywhere.

I intend to follow this with

    Tutorial 2: How to Program
Tutorial 3: C: Basic Types and Constants
Tutorial 4: C: User Defined Types, Structures and Unions
    Tutorial 5: Pointers

and that is more than enough forward planning, if I get that far then I will see wehre we are going next.

Great work Ben. Your plan looks good. I'd have followed the same route myself.

Interesting read! I even read all the wikipedia info. Looking forward to participating in the tutorials. Even though it seems to take me three times as long to write programs as what I think it should, I always get an adrenaline rush when I finally have one working like is intended. I've been at C++ for about three months. The code still comes rather slow to me. Was anyone else like that when they first started? I feel that if I had to program in C++ everyday (for a job) it would feel much more comfortable. It's sometimes hard to fit recreational practice programming in between job and other classes though. Anyways, just wanted to say I'm looking forward to these tutorials. In two weeks, classes will let out so tutuorials will give me something fun and productive to do in the extra freetime ahead!

I may be out of place suggesting this since I am in no way contributing to the teaching of this class, but this is just a suggestion. Maybe once we actually delve into the coding aspect of C++, we could be given a problem/program to solve; and discuss, later in the week, any problems one may have encountered with writing the program. Just a thought. That way everyone would actually get some hands-on time with the actual code!

This is a great idea. We could even have a question taken from the c++ forum itself that matches the current topic and have it discussed in the tutorial.
Something for Ben to think about.

Maybe we should make a tutorials half to the forum and move these kinds of things over to it, each coding language could have a tutorials section, that way if you have several stickied topics they won't obstruct the view of posts from people asking for help, and if they don't get stickied, they're eventually dissappear.

That is currently under discussion by the forum mods.

I am also considering moving all the replies to this thread to another thread and reserving this thread for my tutorial posts only thus reducing the number of sticky threads required as a temporary measure.

                      Very good start....

As a total aside: Did you know that (supposedly) the 'repeat' on shampoo bottles is actually one of the greatest marketing gimmicks in all time, more than doubling (interesting, maybe not everyone interpreted 'repeat once') the sales for a (at the time) company with dwindling profits?
