although there are so many differences between C and C++ , I think it will be some beneficial idea when i talk about C.
I started with buying a good book which was also ordered me to buy from The Lecturer. So askhim or her to buy which book is most helpful in programming exercises. Our midterm concept is tracing the program on the midterm page.So I try to do the past midterm questions and work on them.Using my own symbols i determine whether or not the question could be asked again i mean same concept but maybe the variables or operations can vary.So try to get the past questions of midterms. And play with them.Another thing is, i'm given lab questions from my department homepage and there are some experiments about programming C.I have them one week before the experiment from the webpage than I practice on it.So if you have labs try to practice on them.Try to do it yourself. If you have difficulties first go and ask whereever possible.Try to solve problems from both here and the books you have suggested.
If it is any helpful i will be happy.
    Respects,
