This is my problem, i'm moving nodes but i want the person using the program to press the control key and then drag the node to the selected area. Because i don't want the person to just click and drag otherwise it might happen unexpectedly. i'm using mouse down, drag over and drag drop for the nodes.....Any help of how to implement the Control key?

I don't know how to do the control key, but I can give you a plan 'b' (alternative to drag-n-drop)
Right-Click on the node
Context menu
Cut/Copy
Right-Click where you want it to land
Paste
