I suspect there is a better forum for this question, but i couldnt
find it. If someone could point me in the right direction or help me
with this question it would be muchly appreciated
I have setup a remote debugging session between my local PC with the
source code in c# vs2008 and an XP image with the application running
in a VMware image running, on another networked PC.
My local pc is part of a domain, the server running the vmware image
is part of a workgroup.
I have been successfull up to a point, i can make the remote debugging
connection i can see it is connecting properly, im pretty sure i have
set it up correctly and it all seems to be connecting correctly. Im
pretty confident i have this right.
The app running on the XP vmware image is producing an exception, that
is not mirrored on my local pc source developement , hence the remote
debugging.
When the exception is triggered on the vmware XP image, my local pc
source in vs2008 pops up with the exception message in the right
place, exactly as i would expect it to.
This tells me my setup is correct and working for remote debugging.
My problem occurs when setting break points in my local source so i
can step through the code.
When i set my breakpoint the symbols are all loaded ok, but when i
activate the function on the app running in the vmware image to make
it get to the breakpoint so i can step through, both my local source
in VS2008 and the client app on the vmware image freeze, the
breakpoint does not seem to get hit, and the yellow arrow that should
appear to allow me to step through the local source does not appear.
Then i need to force the client app running in the vmware image to
terminate (using cntrl alt delete) to recover control of my local
vs2008.
Can anyone suggest anything or point me to a good resource. I fell i
have 50% working, im just missing something to get all the remote
debuggin functionality
