    C Sharp Certification PLEASE HELP

Hi. I am an amateur C# enthusiast. I currently work as a carpenter
and I moonlight on the weekends as a photographer. I'm trying to
    transition a career change.

Is there an exam that leads to certification in C# like there is with Java?

How much of the exam will rely on memorization? How much will be from
programming skill? How do they measure my programming ability from one
    exam?

Re: C Sharp Certification PLEASE HELP

Wow amazing, a fello carpenter also tring to make the career change.

Look into MCAD and MCSD http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/mcp/
For exam preparation check out http://www.measureup.com they have some
    pretty good test preparatino exams.

MCAD (Microsoft Certified Application Developer) is a total of three exams.
MCSD (Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer) extends the MCAD
certification with two more exams for a total of 5.

A good place to take the exams at are any one of the several NewHorizons
learning centers. about $120.00 a pop.

Also checkout the MCAD newsgroup microsoft.Publi c.cert.exam.mca d or
    microsoft.Publi c.cert.exam.mcs d
I'm in the middle of my MCAD. total of three exams. with two more to go.
The newsgroups and many many books have help a great deal.

Good luck in your career change. In these economicly uncertain times
    you're going to ned it.

I am a programmer. There couldn't be a more boring and unfulfilling
profession. I would rather be a carpenter.

As a computer consultant for 8 years now. The market is not what is
use to be. The companies hiring programmers are working them to
death. Programmers are having less say because the market isn't good
enough to leave. So there are more (sweat shops)companies taking
advantage of their employees. Yeah with a .Net cert you can get real
close to 6 figures a year but get ready for 50-70 hour work weeks for
months on end. It's a tough decision but if you want money it might
just work for you but don't expect to gain much vacation. After 8
years I am looking at 10 days again if I change companies. Or a pay
cut which is worse since in the north east the cost of living is
                pretty high.

I work to live, not live to work... you choose your poison. I would
love to work wood for a living. Anybody in the Orlando Fla area need
                a apprentice. I have skills. I can build a datawarehouse,w eb
interface, vb client and secure your network all at once. I think the
IBM guy had it right retire and then do what you enjoy. At 33 I am to
young for that. But building furniture sounds very appealing.
