what happens after clicking the GO button

Today i had a interview question

"what happens when you type the url and hit the GO button in the browser"

If anybody knows the correct answer please reply.

I tried to explain the ASP.net page life cycle. thats was okay, but he was expecting some thing that happens before the ASP.net page life cycle starts.

Well the ASP.NET page request cycle wasn't required here at all as it may never be called if the url does not point to any ASP.NET pages.
You should probably have gone into a description of how HTTP request is created for the entered URL.
