testing/developing asp with visual studio .net

Hi, I've taken an interest in developing ASP .NET web applications and I
want to use Visual Studio .NET which I already have for my development. My
problem is that I do not have a server on my machine I can use for testing
and apparently you cannot even create a web application project without one.
Is there an easy way around this (some simple freeware personal server I can
download) or do I necessarily have to invest in something expensive like
Windows Server 03? Thanks for your help.

    Hi,

If you're using WinXP Pro or Windows 2000, you have IIS (Internet
Information Server). Don't think it comes with XP Home though.

Have XP home unfortunately, and I know I don't have IIS. Can I purchase or
      download that somehow? Thanks
