How to host from your own IP address?

I see at some websites, that people host stuff at an IP adress. But im wondering, how do they do that? I have Apache installed, but do i need something else?

You will need a static ip address first and then you'll need to open up port 80 on your router and forward it to your machine. On your machine's firewall, make sure you've allowed incoming port 80 requests.

That is normal. It is more or less the default router's behavior. That is why you need to open a port (80) on your router and instruct your router to forward all request addressed to port 80 to a machine on your internal network. That machine will have its own IP address normally something like 192.168.0.10 or 10.0.0.12. This address is either assigned by your router through DHCP or can be a static address that you assigned yourself. If you search on the web, you will find how to do it. Or check your router manual.

your option is available in your linksys admin page.

By the way can you access it? If it is provided by your ISP then you are not suppose to get access of the page. And if you say you get the page of your linksys router page it means you are trying with your trying with the default gateway ipaddress. This is not your machine ip address.

There is few more issue. I am sure that your linksys dont have any real IP-Address. Your linksys router is connected to your ISP. which mean you simply cannot route your machine to outside world. And yes you can. in that case you will have to do few things in order to make your machine accessible from out side world

What I have said is guess. to give you proper information you need to explain your proper situation.
