Ok i apologize in advance as i am a high school senior and do not start my computer science programs till next year but i have been working with PHP and apache for the last month and was thinking about using the old dell i have laying around with some major storage as a web server for myself.

I want to set it up so that i can place my website on it for photo storage, etc. Can i do this using apache. And if so what do i need to configure on it to make it accessible from outside my computer. Currently i can only access it on my computer by Http:myip or localhost but not on any other computers in the network.

any suggestions and sorry if im beating a dead horse here i tried the search feature and google.

You haven't said what operating system you are running on it.

Do you have a firewall blocking port 80?

Check the config file to make sure that you aren't listening (listen directive) to localhost but are listening to your IP address.

I apologize i am running windows XP home edition.

the listen directive shows port 80

I am running the windows xp firewall( i opened the web server port 80 under settings) i assume i also have to unblock it on my router?

Only if you want the site viewable externally to the LAN.
