    Masking Field Entry

hi, this appears to be what I'm looking for. I need to be able to search for credit card numbers through an entire db to make sure that if found they can be x'd.

Not sure how to get the above to work though. hoping I can get some help.

    thanks
    Martin

mdempsey: I've split this from an old thread (( http://bytes.com/topic/access/answer...rs-mixed-field ))

This way hopefully more people will see your question.

For Context, the post was in a thread where the poster was working on masking credit card numbers.

Personally, I use either MD5 or SHA digests on such information and if needed for review I use one of the encryption methods such as given :http://bytes.com/topic/access/insigh...m-vba-vbscript
    or

If I need to store a partial credit card number then I use the normal Right() function and concatenate that with a string of "X"s as needed.

great stuff thanks. typically, if a card number was entered it would be a closed account as a result of fraud, so the risks are fairly low, but md5 might be the better way anyways.

      cheers
