    referenced fields not being updated

    Hi ,
I have a form with equipment details.

Then another form for reporting faulty equipment is getting the id, name and serial number of equipment from the main for using the expression
    Code:
    =[Forms]![frmPrevMaintenance]![Equip Name]
The [Equip Name]or [Equip serial no] are appearing the other form, which has other fields that need to be entered as well.

The problem I have is that only the data on the other fields on the form are updated in the maintenance table.

How do I get the referenced fields to be updated in the table as well.

    HELP! AMATEUR!

The reason that the table isn't being updated is that your textboxes aren't tied to the table, but instead are tied to the other form. Try moving your form reference to the default value of the textbox and then set the control source to the appropriate field in your maintenance table.

While this solution will (probably) display the information that you are seeking, the problem seems to be more of a design problem which will manifest itself elsewhere. Look at the following link. It will help you know how to design your database properly so that issues like this won't come up later on. Database normalization
This solution is MUCH preferred to the one given in my first paragraph.

A very good reason to pay attention to the question you post. This is hard to work with, not because of any lack of understanding related to Access, but because you seem to have put very little thought towards making it make sense. Understandable maybe, if you're in a panic and aren't sure anyone can help you. Nevertheless, it makes the job of helping you very difficult.

We're always happy to help, but we do expect something tangible to work with.

Yes, Please read the link that Neopa gave you!

I doubt the link to the normalization alone will make much sense as you need to also have at least a basic understanding of the overall method of database design - a fairly good A Tutorial for Access will help you with the foundation you need before you start building forms.
