    Access Database "Stopped Working"

while finishing up my database, suddenly the dreaded "Microsoft Access has stopped working" with the scolling bar below in the box appeared and access restarted. This keeps happening whenever I reopen (either original or backup) I noticed the files were renamed (C:Database21[Conflict] and C:Database21[Conflict]_Backup). Prior to the event everything was working fine and tested. It all started when I clicked a previously working drop down box with a DLookup attached to fill another textbox. Any Ideas? Compacted and repaired with no luck

I'm assuming that when you refer to a backup you aren't saying you've kept a proper set? If your only backup is the file listed then you have indeed got yourself into a very dangerous position - and then got unlucky.

I don't have any links to hand for handling a corrupted database (for that's surely your problem), but creating a new one from scratch and importing as many of the objects into it from the corrupted version that you can, and are not themselves corrupted, is the basic idea generally. It can be laborious, and is likely to leave you at least one object that won't import across, but it's better than starting the whole project again from scratch.

I strongly suggest you proceed from here with a good and reliable backup plan to ensure you aren't exposed to such a grave and avoidable situation in future.

      I know... something silly...
1st try to open the DB file while holding the shift key down. So long as you haven't disabled this key yet you might be able to get into the DB still. I've had this happen and work.
I then moved everything out of that DB file into a new one!

2nd: 5.How to Decompile an Access Application Or How to do a Full Fresh Compile

3rd: (because you didn't state the version) How to troubleshoot and to repair a damaged Access 2002 or later database which inculdes NeoPa's solution as well.

There are some shareware and payware tools out there that promise the moon (and proof of string theory); however, I'm a little leary of them as a whole in that the ads tend to be better than the results. However, many of them will get stuff when nothing else works... cost to data ratio needs to be considered.
