I know that not all of these are in direct answer to the your question; however, these will answer 80 to 99% of every basic (and frankly some not so basic) question you could ask... some of the information is version specific however the website is active and I've seen changes being made for the v2007 and v2010
For a video series... this is not the best however, this starts from the begining of development and once you're on youtube you know that it will show a ton of related materal so you could easily spend the next year (or more) watching the various vids and never have to watch the same one twice...
Here's some canned stuff... read thru them to see how the strings are created... because some can be fairly complex I don't mind providing a link to some examples:

I warn you now.... this is for after you understand what these are for... there are a few (I read alot) good articles on this site that you should browse thru and read - many of which will help you use the connection strings that are shown in the link. Once again, depending on how fast you read... you could spend a year or more here too! :)
