    Numbering Items in a Report

    Novice User Here.....

How do I "Number" my query results in the Detail section of a Report?

For example, if my query return 3 records...

Instead of the Report showing this way:

    Paul
    Charlie
    Michael

I would like the Report to show it this way:

    1 Paul
    2 Charlie
    3 Michael

Create a control on your report and make the formula =1. Next change the RunningSum property to True and you have a count.

Thanks. That did the trick. Like I said, I'm a novice. Your solution also taught me that it must be poor practice to name Table fields with a Number... like "1", or 2. I've changed those field names to "One" and "Two". I wasn't able to apply your solution until I renamed the field "1" to "One".

Frankly, having any fields named by a number, whether as a character or the text, is not a great idea. Please check out Database Normalisation and Table Structures. It's not directly about naming and how important it is that names are meaningful, but it may give you an understanding to help you realise this for yourself. It's certainly an understanding that you will be better off for if you plan to do anything with databases. Good luck :-)
