Should I buy Access 2002 for my home machine?

I develop Access databases at work, and most of my users are running 2002, with no real upgrade in the future. I'd like to install Access on my home machine (currently I don't have it at home at all), but if I buy 2010, I'm afraid I will have trouble remembering will and won't run on my users' versions.

Or is this not much of a problem?

I think you should buy 2007 or 2010 Ms office and upgarde all the db to 2007/2010 version.

As I said in my original post, there is no upgrade in the offing for my users. They work at different institutions than I do, and I have no input, much less control, over what those institutions run. Also, we're County, so shoestrings are a luxury for us.

It's 2002 for them or nothing.

From personal experience, I have observed that databases made in 2003, later opened in 2007, would no longer even open in 2003, even though I had made no design changes while having it open in 2007.

yes buy 2002 or 2003. Just be sure when you save your work to save it in 2000 format from the file menu.

I have gone through the same issue and obtained a copy of access 2003. It seems to be the standard version for access in most companies to be honest.

As most of the comments seem to be saying, go for the compatible version. Access is famous for struggling with compatibility across different versions. That means 2002 (or XP) even though 2003 is very much a solid product and the differences between the two were minimal (AFAIA).

I'd never recommend 2007 to anyone anyway, as it's a pile of junk, but even 2010, which is coming to be understood to be pretty robust and reliable, is not the version your users are using, so I'd avoid that for this project.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I guess it's 2002 for me!

You may have problems finding 2002 (XP) in the market now, but I expect you'll manage to get a copy if you look on the web. Good luck with it.
