    Cannot open MS Access '07

    Hi

Just tried to open MS Access '07 for the first time (installed it some time ago) and received the following error message: "During the communication of MS Access with the OLE-Server or an ActiveX-Element an problem ocured." Beeing this a translation from german, as I have Office '07 12 SP2 german V installed. I'm working with Windows XP SP3 spanish V.

The error window further advises me to close the OLE-Server and then restart it. No idea how. Please help.

    Thanks

Are you opening a virgin Access copy? Or are you opening a pre-existing database? It sounds like you are opening a database that is looking for some 3rd-party object and that object is not present.

If you're simply opening the Access program, I would try reinstalling Access '07. If you're opening a particular database, perhaps you have to go back to the source of the database to see what external objects or references you have to install in addition to Access.

      No database

It's a virgin program, and I don't have any access files on my computer yet.

So I will have to reinstall it. But - sorry for the dumb question - is it possible to reinstall Access alone without touching the rest of the office installation. I wouldn't like to loose my (word / onenote)setting s. (Or do I have a possibility to save them?)

      Thanks Jim

I can't speak with any authority about that, but I would think the "Repair" option would do that. Previous versions of Office provide options for "Install", "Remove" and "Repair Installation."

Of course, there's not telling whether a Repair process would accomplish what you need.

        Good luck,
