    mutiple tables link in forms

Hi, I am pretty new in ACCESS , however I am trying following :
    Table typist has empl_id(key),na me,last_name,
    Table legal_debate has date,location,c ase_id,typist(i d)
    typist_id used as typist.empl_is

    I made a subform on Table typist , using a single combobox with rowsource is :SELECT typist.employer _id, typist.first_na me, typist.last_nam e FROM typist ORDER BY [first_name], [last_name];

    In Main form I had linked_child_fi eld=empl_id,lin k_master_field= typist

When I browsing exstent records in table legal_debate , evrything seems OK , when I am trying to insert a new record to legal_debate.ty pist using combolist selection from subform
I am getting : You can't add or change a record bacause a related record is required in table typist" .....

    First question
on one of the existing legal_debate records, can you
    1) change the typist with the combobox
    2) navigate to another record
    3) navigate back to the record you changed

    and the typist has changed?
if you can that should indicate its all linked ok.

    Next question
When you created the new record in legal_debate did you enter any values into the fields from that table?
Also try doing that and then navigating to another record and then come back to that new record and then select the typist. Does that work?

Its been a while since I have done any of this in access but I am thinking that the record
in the form hasn't actually been created in the legal_debate table yet.
Memory tells me the record gets created in the table when you navigate away from the record in the form.

Someone say something if my memory is faulty
