    What you ask is clearly not an MS Access or VB question. If you could tell me where you think you should be asking this question I'll move it for you.

    Please note that I think you might find it simpler to use Google to look for information on the structure and contents of the DAT file you want to open. There is no 'standard' way to structure a data file (.DAT) - these are application-dependent and may contain bespoke values at byte-group level, text data, or whatever mix of such values suited the developer's requirements. Without knowing the structure you'd just be guessing even if you opened it in a byte editor.

    It certainly isn't a Windows Application, so the error message you mention is quite correct!
