    Setting Passwords --

I am most embarrassed for posting this question:

While reviewing ‘the security section’ and setting a password I seem to have made a typing error. The password selected is not recognized by my database. Is there any thing I can do to disable the password? I do not wish to lose the notes and exercises made on a 300 page book.

Thank you in advance for any suggestion.

I'm sorry Peter, but our rules prohibit posting of techniques for breaking into a project.

Worse news is that if what you're talking about is what I think it is (You're not very specific) then this may prove impossible without some heavy-duty cracking techniques.

Why don't you post exactly what you've done and I'll see if I can come up with some ideas for you. Obviously I'd have to post them privately if they are potentially nefarious.

Another time (I know - no help to you in this situation) make sure you have a backup before making any such security changes.

Thank you for NeoPa for the message. To deal with the problem of the forgotten password I have reinstall ACCESS, open my databases as new and reset the password to one I will remember. Next time I will be more careful.

From that response Peter (The information simply wasn't in your OP) I would say that you could have got away with taking the default copy of the System.Mdw file from any Access install. This has obviouly been a case of changing (setting) the password for the default Administrator security account.

This is (luckily) one of the less serious things you could have been talking about. I'm pleased you got it resolved though anyway :)
