I have a MS Access 2000 database running my wife's cross stitch business. We have it on two PCs both running XP, with one having a linked mde APP front end (PC 2) and one having the MDB back end and a linked MDE front end. The MDB back end is in a shared folder, however, on switching PC 2 on and signing into the database error message 3051 is displayed: "The Microsoft Jet database ebgine cannot open the file ... It is already open exculsively by another user, or you need permission to view its data".
The database is not opened in exclusive mode and default record locking is edited record.
To overcome this I have to right click on the folder the MDB is in, click on properties, click on sharing, then unclick Allow network users to change my files and unclick share this folder on the network and then click them both again and finally click OK and hey presto the database is accessible on PC 2, until the next reboot!
This happens whether PC1 is signed into the database or not. The MDB is presently in a sub-folder of all users shared documents and is also set as a shared folder, but it has also happens if it has been in any other folder on PC 1 (also shared).
Whilst I know how to manually resolve this, I would be very appreciative if anyone knows how to stop this from happening in the first place.
