    startup icon

    Hi,

Is it possible to change the startup-icon of a .mde-file? I know I can
change it in a shortcutfile, but I want it also be changed in the .mde-file.

    Thanks in advance

The moment Access-application runs it shows the changed icon. When I look at
the content of the folder the application is stored, it still displays the
standard Access-icon. How do I change this one?

The only way I know of to change the icon associated with the mde file in
Windows Explorer is to change the icon of the executable that opens the mde
file extension. The downside is that all mde files will show this icon, not
        just your intended mde.

          Hi There :-)

How about using a shortcut to launch the app, and change the icon of
the shortcut? That way the app's 'actual' icon doesnt matter, as the
user only sees the shortcuts icon - and you can make that whatever you
          want.

          Cheers

I think that's what the OP is currently doing. I think she wants the
MDE icon to be the icon for the app when looking at it in Explorer.

              Hi Salad,

Long time no chat! Hope you have been well :-) I see that I missed the
point the OP was making. I guess that leaves the only other option -
to create an .exe with Visual Studio or in VB.net or C#.net. That
could be a lot of work though. I've never seen a tool that can do
              MDB / MDE to EXE.

Sorry for missing the point! I guess I needed more coffee

                Re: startup icon

Windows is a document based operating system. Documents are associated
with programs. When we open a document, Windows knows what program to
use, and opens the program. The icon is a visual indication of what
this program is. Not surprisingly, the icon is program based, not
document based. In a way it's a safety indication; when we see the
Access icon we can guess that double clicking the document file will
open it within Access, and not within, say, Word, which could have
unwanted effects were we to click "Save" after doing so.

Within Windows, the direct viewing and manipulation of files may be
discouraged, hence read-only, hidden and system folders and files. We
can use links or shortcuts, and we can modify the icon displayed for
                these.

It seems that the [Windows Way] is unsuitable for your circumstances.
For others, I strongly suggest that files and their location be
sacrosanct and if users must see anything, they see a shortcut.

Would I want my users to see my mde file with a FFDBA Icon? Perhaps I
would if I were using runtime-Access and wanted to deceive the world
into thinking I am a much better programmer-developer than is actually
the case, that is that I, and not Access, was responsible for that
glorious interface, and those clever subforms, not to mention the
                simple, clear and comprehensive reports.
                Sadly, this happens sometimes.

Hi Frog. Nice to chat with you too. Years ago I was constantly bummed
out buying presents for my mom, a person who appeared to have everything
she needed to have a comfortable life. I never knew what to get her. I
                  hit on an idea and decided to get her started on a Frog collection;
infrared frog door sentries, Frog alarm clocks, Frog slippers, Frog
statues, etc. Last Christmas I got her a sign for their cabin that read
"Frog Parking Only. All Others Will Be Toad". I never lack for Frog ideas.

I read Chris O'C's comments and started thinking of what would need to
be done to accomplish the feat and my brain started getting tired
thinking of the mountain of work that would be required to come even
close to what the OP wanted. I wasn't even sure if it'd be legal. All
to hide the fact the app is from Access.

                    Hi again Guys,

I was doing a little more thinking on the original topic while
contemplating the use of Frog icons for my applications, and
remembered that there was a tool I saw capable of converting Access
applications to Java - either as a stand alone app or as an applet
(ie/ through a web browser). I also managed to dig up the site!

The Microsoft Access to Java Converter. Convert your Access Forms and code to Java automatically with one button click.

The conversion to an applet would eliminate the need for an installed
app, and you can control what the icon is for the web site itself. I
am not sure if it is appropriate for this occasion, but it might be
worth a look. There seems to be a trial version available that will do
a conversion of the Northwind database if you want to have a look.

Its interesting that you mention the Frog related theme for gifts for
your mum, I have started to do the same for mine! There does seem to

Gramma has invited you and Frog over. I'm puzzled because she keeps
referring to you as "Newt" and chuckling and muttering some
incantation as she stirs a great cauldron of boiling water. What could
                              that mean?
A bleak future from a stewing pot or else a dynomite dressing.
