    Access Report Grid Alignment...

    Hi again,

every I go into Design mode in a report and move something around, it
gets "disaligned " with respect to the underlying grid, either at 8X8
or 9X9 (don't know why at 10X10 you can't see tha grid, either...) and
I have to manually select every control, textbox, whatever and move
each of the sides up and down to "re-align" it correctly to the
    grid...

Is it just me missing something or is it a normal behaviour?

Thank you in advance for any help u may provide...

    Ciao, Lupo

    I don't know what 8x8 or 9x9 is but then I'm looking at a grid in A97.

Is it possible you don't have the SnapToGrid selected under the Format
    menu bar?

      Re: Access Report Grid Alignment...

      Dear Salad,

first of all, thank you for your quick reply. I have always had Snap
on, since Access 95. The problem is a little different: If u click on
the report/form property and change the "X Grid" and "Y Grid" from
10-10 to 9-9 or 8-8, you'll see a dotted grid that helps aligning the
      different objects...

Let's suppose that u have a label which is 10X3 dots, perfectly on the
dots. If you move the label somewhere else in the form/report, the
label will clearly show one or more sides not aligned with the dots
and u have to select the label, grab the side(s) and pull them away
and then back on the dots to realign them correctly...

      Regards, Lupo

What version are you using? I don't have a prob with A97.

Maybe it's the graphic adapter. I've had computers before where things
are flaky and will work fine on one computer but not another.

FWIW I always use a 24x24 grid as that appears to be a newer default of Access.

            Re: Access Report Grid Alignment...

Currently, I am using both Access 2000 AND 2007 on two different
machines... I have had this problem ever since I can remember...
graphic cards don't make a difference...

Where do u get 24X24? Anything above 9X9 will not show any dots at
all, just the big squares... plus, both version start with a 10X10
            default grid...

            Please try this:

new form, design mode, click properties on the gray section of the
form, locate X grid and Y grid, change to 9X9, dots appear...

Now, create a label of 5X20 dots (any size will work). It will be
aligned with the dots covering them where required. Simply drag the
label around and u'll see that at least one size of the label will not
be "on the dots", but rather "close" to them...

Unfortunately, when u have many fields, it will show the disalignment
            on screen and on print...

            Thanks, Lupo

Aha, that might be the difference. While I'm Canadian and we're mostly metric I'm
old enough that I prefer to run my system in Imperial units.

In design mode, highlight all the labels in a "column".
Click on Format, then in the drop down menu click on Align then click on Left
                  or right, your choice.

Highlight all the labels in the next "column" and repeat the Format/Alignment
                  operations.

In simular fashion you can align rows by top or bottom.

And you can make sizes alike.
