I Need Help Or Should I Say Ideas Or General Pointers For The Best Way To Approach Designing My Table / Form.

Im Wanting To Monitor Holidays In My Office

An Employee Requests A Holiday And I Either Accept It Or Refuse It Depending On How Many Others Are Off.

I Would Also Need To Query It By Week To See Who Is Off , How Many Are Off Etc.

Ive thought About Creating A Table With Fields For Week Commencing And Fields For Sun Thru To Sat WhichI Would Populate With Either "A" For Approved or "R" For Refused

I Would Like Somewhere For The Database To Calculate The Number Of Days Booked / Remain Per Employee.

Any Ideas On The Best Way To Approach This

Think big, Stella. You're asking such a small thing of your database, to monitor holidays. Either you can get this information by adding a little bit to a database that already exists, or you can add a little to the barebones you need for this job to do additional management.

Anyway, I'd suggest you make yourself fully aware of the capabilities of the Format function. Give it any date and it can return so many different things about that date. I think knowing the full details of that function can help you as you begin to design this thing.

I think you're going to need an employee table (minimum elements Name, number, Number of holidays they are allowed), a Date table (minimum elements date, Number of employees allowed to take that day as a holiday) a HolidayRequest table (minimum elements Employee number, date requested, approved/denied/pending flag)

Maybe you want to classify the employees, and limit how many of each classification can be off on the same day.

The Holiday Element Is Actually Only Part Of A Bigger Database.

I Already Have An Employee Table Which Does Include The Number Of Days That Employee Is Allowed To Book.

I Also Have A Holiday Request Table Which Currently Works OK , But I Dont Think Its Efficient And Maybe Doing Too Much Work For A Simple Table.

I Dont Have A Date Table At All , So Maybe I'll Get My Thinking Cap On And Have A Wander Done That Road.
