    Access "synopsis" function?

I'm a Notes admin tasked with fixing an Access problem. I hope someone
will be gracious enough to help.

The database is getting a 3420, object not defined, and I need to find
all the places where the object is referenced.
In Notes, I'd just get a synopsis which shows all executable lines of
    code in the entire database.

Does Access have a similar function?

    Regards,
MVSGuy (I am waaaay outside my comfort zone here.)

When you receive the error message you should get a "debug" option. Choose
this to find the offending line of code. Post it here along with any other
code in the module to give us as clue.

    Keith.

The code is as follows -
      ' Export report r_MA_BERP Preliminary z88
      DoCmd.OutputTo acReport, "r_MA_BERP Preliminary z88",
      "RichTextFormat (*.rtf)", "c:\urs_ar\ BERP Prel CS.rtf", True, "", 0

I can see it wants to send "r_MA_BERP Preliminary z88" to
      c:\urs_ar\BERP Prel CS.rtf.

The problem I'm having is finding where "r_MA_BERP Preliminary z88" is
      supposedly created.

Is there a way I can expose all executable code in an Access database
to track down where an object is instantiated?

      Regards,
      MVSGuy

I've had a quick look in the help under "OutputTo" and it seems that
"r_MA_BERP Preliminary z88" is the data container. It should be a stored
report (look on the "reports" tab in the db window) which runs from the code
and its resultant data exported to "c:\urs_ar\ BERP Prel CS.rtf".

        Regards,
        Keith.

Thank you, I was able to puzzle out that much from the help file as
          well.

The problem is when I try to look at the report, the Design & Report
buttons are clickable but do nothing when they are clicked.

Pardon me if I keep whipping the same horse, but is there a
synopsis-like function that shows all the executable code in an Access
          database? (including reports?)

I'm not sure what you mean by "shows all the executable code in an Access
database" - the code is available to view in each object (form, report,
module). What concerns me is that clicking on "design" for the report does
nothing, it's a conditions I've never encountered. Have you tried a
compact/repair or importing the report into a clean db file and see if you
can get it into design view from there?

            Keith.

This suggests that you're using an MDE, so I'm not sure why you ever
saw the code that was throwing the error.

Each object has its own module. If you want to search all of them,
open any code module, hit Ctrl-F (the FIND dialog), enter the string
you want to search for and then choose ENTIRE DATABASE as the scope
              of the FIND operation.

The executable code that displays/prints report is not exposed. The VBA code
is in class Modules for Forms and Reports, and other VBA code is in standard
Modules. It is quite probable that you have, not the source .MDB file, but a
"compiled" .MDE in which the VBA code is not available.

If you were expecting object-oriented code that "instantiat es" the Form or
Report, that's just not the way Access works.

DoCmd.OpenRepor t is the statement used to open a Report from VBA code. The
Report itself is designed visually, and snippets of VBA code may be defined
to run when certain events occur.

Not that I know of but it would be relatively easy to create one.
