    filtering and edit

    Hi
I have a large table which I wanted to filter and then edit the selected
    record.
I'm using a form with several pull down fields linked to lookup tables which
correspond to fields in the large table. The user selects a number or
category or All from the pull-down and this is used in a query, made up of
the main table and the lookup tables with a suitable Iif statement to filter
    the query.
So on the form there are several fields that can be each set to a value or
to All. A button runs the query if no pulldowns are selected each field
defaults to All and all the records are displayed.
The form can filter as one field only or A And B And C etc. This works well
and gives the filtered subset displayed in the subform on the form.
Is there now a way to edit a selected record from the few in the subform?
Maybe dbl/click on it and search for that record and display to a pop up
    window.
Is there an easier way to achieve all this?
    TIA

The mere act of filtering (this term has specific meaning in Access)
does not make a recordset readonly.
    Take a Northwind form.
    Observe it is editable.
Use filter by form to filter on some criteria.
    Observe it is still editable.

If you set the form's Filter property to some "Where Clause", it does
    not become uneditable.

Perhaps you're doing something different. Please elaborate.

If the form's Allow Edits property is set to No, you would not be able
to edit the record. If the subform includes any aggregate functions or
is missing any required fields from the underlying table, the filtered
records would not be editable regardless of the form settings. These
are the only specific scenarios I can think of off the top of my head
that would prevent edits in a subform.

It sounds like you might be able to save yourself lots of work by just
making a main form that shows all relevant fields of your table, and then
using filter by form to find selected records to edit. Do you have special
requirements or complications that prevent you from doing it this way?
