    Security and Workgrpup

I am having problems enforcing security on Access.

    0. The Access db is created on a network share.
    1. After creating a new workgroup file and taking the Admin out of
Admins with a new password. I created a new account.
    2. I am prompted to enter a password
    3. Any other user who logs on to the 2000/XP machine can access the
file without any password using the default system.mdw file.
    4. Users over the network can also access the file.

Any ideas why this is happening?

    Regards,

Did you open Access using your new account and then create new blank file
into which you imported all of the objects from the original? If not then
"Admin" likely is still listed as the owner of the database and all objects.
Owners have permissions over and above those that are assigned.

Yes I did, when I accessed the file from the network, I can open the
file, looking at the database owner indicates "Unknown".

This is really frustrating, any help will be appreciated.

Well you missed a step somewhere. When a user logs in without being
prompted they MUST be doing so as user = "Admin" which is a member of the
group "Users". If they can open your file with this account then either
"Admin" or "Users" has permissions or ownership that they should not have.

          Hi Rick

Thanks for the very quick response and follow up. I ran Security
Wizard again on the blank (importing) db, and that took care of it.
          Works now.

          Thanks.
