    Compact database error

I compacted a database of about 15MB in Access 97 but failed. The
error message was "Record(s) can't be read; no read permission on
'Database Path'.". The database was not set any security and/or
permission on a NT4 file server. I repaired the database successfully
but still could not compact the database. All the workstations are
Windows XP Pro. Any advice to fix it is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ray

Have you checked that you have write permissions at the directory the
database resides? Access creates a new file during compacting.
