Sorry, Andy. You can't download a free copy of Access, but Microsoft offers
a free 30-day trial edition kit of Microsoft Office Professional 2003 (S&H
$7.95), which contains Microsoft Office Access 2003. You can find the link
to Microsoft's Web page where you may order this CD kit, as well as many
other links for Microsoft's and other software vendors' free developers
tools here:

No free downloads; even the initial version is still protected by copyright
for a long, long time. However, you can often find inexpensive, legal copies
of back versions at the online auction sites, and sometimes, current
versions for less than the "deep discount" software vendors.
On the other hand, if you can find someone who has a licensed copy of an
earlier version that they did not use to qualify for an upgrade, and they
aren't using it, maybe they would give it to you. I have done that, on
occasion, for friends, with some graphics software that I no longer had a
need for.
