Unable to Export Access XP Data to Excel

I am getting an error msg saying:

The formats that enable you to output data as a Microsoft Excel,
rich-text format, MS_DOS text, or HTML file are missing or incorrectly
    registered in the Windows Registry.

The error number is 2281. I am using the sendobject function to export
the contents of a query in text format. I have installed every
possible option in the Office XP installation. It reminds me of the
old "can't find installable ISAM" error in Access 97 except there is
no information whatsoever in the KB or online about 2281 or this
problem. This problem is on an XP OS machine which had Office 97
coexisting with Office XP previously. Would reinstalling the OS help?

Any advice on this matter would be most greatly appreciated.

I would suggest wiping the whole computer clean, then reinstall XP and
Office XP. You also might try to repair the Office first. I have a Pentium
700 that is giving me some of the same problems.
