Bar code in Access 2002

[D.M]

In the main form, near the field X (unique personal number for example
2901977100035) I want to add button who is going to print that number in bar
code format EAN 128 on the printer label A4.
If you know how am I going to do this, please contact me on this newsgroup.

simply use a barcode _font_. Im sure you can get EAN 128 format in that
font. now simply create a report and fit its width and height to the size
of your label, Goto PageSetup and make sure this report is pointing to your
label printer desired. Put a textbox on your report and change its font
property to your barcode font and whalaa! you have a barcoded label in under
10 minutes!

p.s. as for locating a barcode font you can do a search on google (I bet if
you look hard enough you could find a free one), or if you have any art
software like Corel Draw that will already have such fonts. Im sure other
places as well, maybe someone else in the group will know where to get one.

p.s.s. once you have located your barcode font you must install it into your
fonts collection from the control panel before you can use it. Also you now
have this font dependancy on any machine that will run this application, so
make sure it gets installed first.

One way to do this is to use an Active X control as part of your
report. Tal technologies, (www.taltech.com) makes an ActiveX control
that you can use. They even have an example application in Access.
Only caveat is that it's pretty expensive. You can search
for other Active X Controls on the web as well.

If you are going to use a specific manufacturer's barcode printer, they often
provide ActiveX controls that work with their brand of printers for free.
Intermec (www.intermec.com) is one such company.

This is only part of the story, if you are using a barcode font you also
have to know how th ebarcode is encoded and do this for yourself. Barcodes
are rarely a straight translation from text to corresponding characters in
the barcode font, you frequently need to know the start character, the stop
character how to checksum etc.
