To Compact gives different file sizes in Win98 and Win2k

    access97, win98 or win2k adv. server sp2
I try compact the mdb file in above OSs. (sometimes i compact it in
win98 and sometimes i compact it in win2k)

The result surprises me, say in two different scenarios:
    i) if it is compacted in win2k, the original 125Mb file changes to
    120Mb.

ii) if it is compacted in win98, the original 125Mb file changes to
150Mb. Then if the 150Mb file is compacted in win2k again, it will
    change to 120Mb!

    Why there is such difference?

    Thank for any help.
    rgds.

    Just a thought:

Are they formated the same way?
    (ie Fat32 or NTFS)

I think that could cause it

      win98 is FAT32.
      win2k is NTFS.

The number of bytes should be the same.

Also you could have different versions of Jet installed on different systems.
