  • Ok I have tried my new idea and still have problems appending the records. The attachment shows a picture of the error that I have been receiving. When I remove all the primary keys (there are three of them and they are set to "indexed(Al low duplicates)'.

I am thinking that the three keys together form the primary key and though they are set to allow duplication individually they do not allow duplication of the same combination....

  • Not sure that I understand what Nico 5038 is saying. The ID field in the table is of type AutoNumber. I dont want to send it to the other table as I would have to allow duplicates in the primary key (I think this is what the first error gave). so I send the the file without the primary key field and hence the second error. I think NeoPa have good Idea of the proplem however I want the table to remain as is and still accept the imported data. Please...

  • I want the data to be imported into the table with all of its structure intact. this is not a one off import it has to be done every month from about twenty different databases. i am thinking about creating a temporary table at the importation of the data then run an append query to add the records to the table.

This method just might work but it brings a lot of over heads. I have to some how remove the table after I finish appending...

Importing data from text file to append to table

I am trying to export some values from a table in my database to a text file then have these values imported and apprnded to another copy of the same database table the same table in another location

When I tried to Import the values I got an error stating that X record have been lost due to a key violation. I suspected that I was trying to put values to a auto number field and hence the error occured.

    I then created a...

I have about ten tables to export.

I have been trying various methods to do this process over the pass week and was not so successful.
I am now running simple imports through the access 2007 wizards and getting problems. When i try importing a text file that I eariler exported from the same table I get an error about primary key violation and if I leave out the primary key field I get another type of error.

Thanks for the reply guys for your insights. I really do appriciate your help. I am rapping my head arround the concepts shared here and will get back to you as sooon as problems arise, and I'm sure that they will.

NeoPa it is not that I am sure I have things covered it is just that I dont know where to start... so I just jump in and have you guys slap me in line when I stray. I'll try to post a proposed design when I finish one....

Automating Data export and import in Access

Database A is distributed across 21 different agencies in a wide geographic area. They all use Access 2007 to run the database. Head office has a copy of database A and would like to have it store all the data from all its outlying agencies. This would require each agency to export the data to a text file and email it to head office. The user at head office would then import this data into the existing database appending all records to its appropriate...

  • Ok guys you have done a great job at scaring me... Now how do we move forward? Where can I find info on Database Replication? how about exporting the data to a spread sheet then emailing that as an attachment then importing it and appending the data to the table.

Exporting, Emaling and importing tables in Access

I have a database that my users populate over a wide area. this database is not networked as it is not possible to do so given finance and location of users. I however want to have all the information in one data repository. To achieve this I am attempting to have a table of updated data exported, emailed central office, then imported to the main database and appended to the existing records. I want to accomplish the export and email function with...

    Validating Date

I am having a form that carries two dates; begDate and endDate. I want to validate this form so that the endDate is the same as or greater than the begDate. I try using the expression builder and set the validation rule of endDate to "=>[begDate]" but this works only on some dates and not all that violates the criteria.

Is there another way or can someone help me with the vba codes to accomplish this task.

    Global variable

I have the following logon modules which I used to direct users with varying priviledges to log on to the DB. I want to be able to populate my support log form with the user ID once the user logs on and open that form. I am thinking about putting in a global variable that would capture the UserID and set to the supportlogs form userID field to this value. I have never used global variables before... any help would be good

Ok this solution did not work. I created the subform and linkes the fields but when i try to enter records it tells me that it cannot add values because it would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship.

Is there anyway that I could tweek this solution to allow the entry of many records by just changing the one record that needs adjusting

I should have mentioned that I am working in microsoft Access 2003. All the forms are in access. Would this approach work there too?

I can't see the link that you are pointing me to please repost.

How about the subform aproach can it work in Access? if so how?

    Multple record entry

I have a situation whereby I have to enter many records in a db that only have one field that changes. For example software installed on a computer would give you many different rows of data with just a single variant in the software field.

I want to know if it is possible to have my form setup in such a way that it takes one instance of constant data and various instances of a variant field but for each variant create a new record...
