No audio in my windows 7

There is no audio in my windows 7. It is showing a message that no audio device is connected even though my speakers are connected. What to do? I have recently formatted my pc and installed windows 7. My pc processor is intel pentium 4 and i have 1 gb ram. Please help.

If you have a sound card, download the drivers from the manufacturer. If it's built into the motherboard, download the drivers from the motherboard manufacturer.

I downloaded the driver and installed it. Still it is showing no audio device is connected.
