Windows Vista will not start in safe mode, hangs at crc disk.

Tried rebooting from the disk. Tried Vista recovery program. Still stops at crc disk in safe mode and will not contnue. It did complete the startup repair and said it will start normally or go back to recovery screen. Never did either one. I did see messages: "system volume on disk corrupt" and "bad FAT I/O: 0x000000e7 " error messages on screen. Any suggestions on how to fix the issue?

CRC means Cyclic Redundancy Check and most of the time, it means your partition is corrupted or even your harddisk is dead. There's not much you can do about it, but this is what I would do:

Remove your harddisk from your PC, attach it to another PC and check it for errors. Fix the errors when possible.

For security, try to make a backup of all important personal files first.

    P.S. I bet your HD is a Maxtor ;-)
