    Event ID: 11164 on Vista Buisiness Client

    I am receiving the following event in the event log of a Vista Business Client (32-bit):

    Log Name: System
    Source: DnsApi
    Date: 2/1/2010 8:32:51 AM
    Event ID: 11164
    Task Category: None
    Level: Warning
    Keywords: Classic
    User: N/A
    Computer: Workstation1.sc arsdale.com
    Description:
    The system failed to register host (A or AAAA) resource records for network adapter
    with settings:

    Adapter Name : {5F623617-A452-42D8-AA34-5ACBF3BE7CFA}
    Host Name : Workstation1
    Primary Domain Suffix : scarsdale.com
    DNS server list :
    192.168.12.208, 192.168.9.4
    Sent update to server : <?>
    IP Address(es) :
    192.168.12.87

    Either the DNS server does not support the DNS dynamic update protocol or the authoritative zone for the specified DNS domain name does not accept dynamic updates.

    To register the DNS host (A or AAAA) resource records using the specific DNS domain name and IP addresses for this adapter, contact your DNS server or network systems administrator.

    </Event>

    - At the same time this event is logged the client also seems to lose connectivity to a specific mapped network drive in this case being (G:\).

    - The very weird thing is that all the other mapped drives work and function fine.

    - Currently I am using a vbs script as a workaround to just manually map network drive (G:\) when this event occurs.

    - When using the script the drive is mapped fine.

    - Any help to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

          Have you made sure that your computer is the most up to date?

          You could try a different DNS server. Google has some public ones, however I prefer OpenDNS.

            The client computer experiencing the issue is part of domain. It has a Primary DNS and Secondary DNS setup. All other clients in the domain are fine. This is the only client workstation that is experiencing this issue.

              Isn't there a way to flush your DNS information. Would that help? Sounds like you need a Windows Server Expert.

                If I manually register dns using ipconfig /registerdns everything is fine and there is no event in the log. It is very strange.
