How do i access and edit files in my virtual machine from host?

How can i access and edit files in my vmware virtual machine from my host machine(code editor)?

    The host machine is vista.
    The virtual machine is CentOS.
    VMware workstation 6.5.2

I'd like to code/edit files from my code editor in vista. I guess in essense it would be setting up a share in the virtual machine.

I think the whole VM File System is contained within a single file on your host PC. I would guess that this is not possible. At least not while the VM is running.

However, if you'd like me to pursue it, I can make some enquiries of a friend who's more experienced in VMWare than I am.

Unless & until that can work, I would consider setting up an FTP server on the VM and transfer the files across between the two PCs. I use this for manipulating files on a Unix machine we have at work.

It is possible to mount a vmware harddrive - I've only done it under Linux so far, but it's possible with Windows too. Just search for "mount vmware harddrive" online and you should find a solution.

Of course, this should only be attempted, when the VM is not running.

        Greetings,

Yes, this is what I do when I use VirtualBox. This should be more or less same with VMware workstation. I found this on Google.

That's a point KUB. I only ever used VMWare with unix builds and I'm not a great expert in that area. From what I remember though, networking works as you'd expect a stand-alone machine to, so setting up a share on either machine would allow easy access from both machines.

Did you have any trouble trying this?
