screen disappears after some time

sir,
i've windows xp....when i open a window, it disappears after some time...i couldn't fix this problem....when i open the taskmanager, it also appears some time and goes to taskbar.....whe n i am installing a software same thing happens.......w hen i try to install the software.....en error message "an instance of program already runs" is displayed...... .is there any settings changed? or is there any virus?

BUT,....how long has this been going on, did you notice it happen after you installed something new?
