Excel 2003, configurates everytime

O.S. XP professional.
Whenever i try to open an excel prog.-- either thro' a short cut on desk top or from start prog. or Windows prog.-- it executes the sequence of reinstalling the prog.,In fact it opens the M.S. Excel 2003 viewer and then going to the several files in Excel format, it opens the particular page.
Why is that and how do I restore M.S. Office progs. to open in the usual manner with out their reinstallation step?
I will appreciate simple easy to follow corrective procedure.

have you recently joined the computer to a domain? what changes have you made to the computer that caused this to happen? when did you notice the problem, what were you doing?
