    Windows XP Corrupt file

I turned on my old desktop for the first time in a year and found out that a file went corrupt. I am going to repair the corrupt file like Microsoft suggest, but I was wondering. When that file is repaired, will all the programs on my hard drive still be there?

I'll have to get back to you on the file. Actually on my PC it tells me to put the CD rom (Windows) in the drive and hit R for repair.

heres something that may apply to u: http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

and most sites i've found say that your programs and everything should still continue to work but there is always a chance that they won't.

Great, I like the 50, 50 odds. If I would have had no chance of recovering any of my programs I would have just up graded the computer while I was at it, but this changes everything.

try using the harddrive as a slave to backup whatever u need, that way if something happens your still safe.

Can I use an external hard drive?

usually a result of a power surge.

It failed, it appears that repairing the file \windows\appPat ch\drvmain.sdb is a critical corruption that needs the computer to be restored before it works again.

                        Thanks for the help.

You win some and you lose some, at least now there is documentation about something like this.

                            Thanks again for your help.
