I have a small VB6 app that uses an InternetExplore r control to retrieve some information from a website. It uses a polling technique (eg check the website every 60 seconds). My app remains hidden until it gets a particular response from the website, and then pops up for the user to see.
I'm noticing that when my app polls the website, even though my app is hidden, the windows focus jumps away momentarily. For example, I start my app and then open MS Word and start typing. Every 60 seconds, MS Word loses the focus for about a second - and then gets the focus back. Naturally, this is quite annoying as I lose a word or two out of my sentences every 60 seconds.
It is unclear where the focus is going when it happens.
Any ideas why this is happening? And how to stop it?
