    how to print via internet

    hi
my client has two stand alone computers. one is at his office and other is at delhi (about 400 miles away from his office). he wants to give print command from his office computer and wants print outs at the printer at delhi office.
i am using vb6 to develop the software.
is it possible using internet? if yes then can anybody please tell how to do this?

    thanx in advance

If you can map the printer on the other system ,you can do it.

The easiest way has got to be use remote desktop right?

Obviously this will need to be set up the first time you use it.

        hi

first of all many many thanx for the replies. actally my client is making invoices at his office. he wants to give print command from his office pc (also from his laptop) and wants the invoice to be printed at his delhi office. in short i am trying to access remote printer. i think remote desktop wont do. by remote desktop i can just access the desktop of other computer. mapping printer may be better option as suggested by debasisdas. i will be thankful if debasisdas can tell me how to do. i will like to make it clear that computers are not connected via lan etc. internet is the only medium, that can be used to connect them.
        please help me out..

        thanx

I agree, although you can use the printer connected to the remote computer, when using remote desktop.

              hi,

to setup the host machine, the one millions of miles away :D follow this link:

              http://www.microsoft.c om/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/northrup_03may1 6.mspx

              ...and...

www.No-IP.com instal this software which will give you a username which forwards to your ip.
(only use this is you dont have a static ip address. if in doubt install it...)

Now to connect to the machine via remote destop.
start remote desktop from start...program ms...somewhere

type in your ip address /--or--/ no-ip username

NOTE: the host machine must have a windows password to enable you to login.

When connecting to remote desktop click Options before you connect to the remote machine, goto local resources, make sure the printer check box is ticked.

                      hi jamesd0142

i followed the steps suggested by you. but to no avail. i did following things.

                      1. in the options tab of remote desktop i clicked the printers check box.
                      2. connected to the remote computer. its desktop came to my computer
                      3. then i opened Printers and faxes and clicked on add printer
                      4. i typed following in the URL text box of 'Connect to the pinrter on internet..'
                      http://117.96.139.4/printers/Wipro

but this is displaying error message.

                      please help

                      thanks

Im affraid I can't help anymore, I have had no problem printing directly in remote desktop before.

I simply login to the remote desktop (full screen-maybe it makes a difference?) and open a document and press print.

                        http://117.96.139.4/printers/Wipro
If this gives you an error then maybe you need this printer to be connected to a router in order for it to have an outside ip address???
                        Im'm no expert here though...

Ah I see, well in this case I don't think remote desktop will solve the problem. I miss understood what you wanted to do.
