Looking for string comparison (near comparisons) algorithm

I am looking for a method to compare strings that will give me an
indication of how close the strings are. Exact matches would be 100 and
things link "Don't" versus "Dont" would show as close matches.

I think I saw a link here a while ago but can not find it.
