    requirement elicition for mobile appliction

I would be very appreciated if you can help me in my Phd point that I have misunderstood this pint which is :

    (1) I need to distinguish between requirements for the "system" and the "applicatio n"
    (2) The outcomes of elicitating requirements for both must be related, otherwise the requirements will not be realizable.

I have been trying to figure out the point but could not

what exactly is your question / the issue. what, in your case, is understood as the 'system' and what 'requirements' do you mean ... if the system is just the machine where an application runs on ... then you have such requirements for the system like memory, CPU speed, install space, user privileges, installed runtime environments etc. while the application has requirements like producing correct results, usability, etc. -- those requirements must match each other ... so you cannot run a fat client on a thin terminal when those client would require a fast cpu and a lot of memory or it couldn't have an installed runtime ... or simpler: you cannot run a very fancy javascript-driven webapp on small mobiles, because the screensize wouldn't be enough or not all mobile browsers could interpret JavaScript etc. ... so the system might even limit the app ... because when you want to have such a mobile app you have to choose from some possibilities that would allow you to create such an app ... or the other way round: if you want to have a specific app it could additionally require a specific system ...

    kind regards

      Thank you for your reply.

honestly i`m not understanding that point very well.

.i would explain my question more that the proof asked me first to propose requirement elicitation framework for mobile which i really found it unclear idea .
then he gave me the above points to make it clear.
which i must find out the requirement for any mobile system such as (security) and any mobile application such as ( m- learning) .

i fully understand the requirement elicitation techniques and methods but i do not how i apply it in mobile domain.
could you explain how can i start doing that,

As i understood form your reply that i must have particular application and see it`s own specification

mobile domain is a bit more specific - at the moment at least - first you need to know about the basic requirements of the mobile domain. there are some specifics that are relevant here ... like security, bandwidth, device-models and their runtime environments, costs for the connection time and so on ... then you would basicly have some limits/boundaries which are relevant for mobile applications ... as i already said ... you cannot just build an app with VB for example and then want to have that app running on any mobile device ... so when you would have an app in mind ... you need to take the surrounding environment into account which might limit what you could really implement in the end ...

Huh? ... i suggest to start searching for information from the web and from books - there are tons of them out there ...as i understood .. you are writing a PhD thesis? then you should know how to gather such information from different sources ... since you would even need to have reliable sources and need to cite them. start with understanding the mobile world ... have a look for the standards and future developments ... then you will get an idea which services and applications in this domain might be worth to be handled in a thesis ... some things are already mentioned ... specificly don't forget security restrictions, bandwidth, availability, runtime requirements for apps, costs, etc. ... this is not the place to discuss all that in general here ...

              kind regards
