Inserting column values from one table to another

I have one table say tblMaster in which there is column named col1. There is one more table -- tblDetails which contains a foreign key referred from tblMaster plus the same column which is col1.

My problem is i have data in both the tables but in my details table the column "col1" is empty and i want to retrieve the values for this column from first table and then insrt it into second based on certain criteria..... please help..
