MySQL problem - error 2013

I can't find a newsgroup dedicated to MySQL - is it appropriate to
post a question about it here?

Most anything I try to do (explain table, drop table, drop database)
results in "Error 2013 - Lost connection to MySQL server during
query".

I running MySQL1 on Windows XP.

Any advice?

Did you really mean to write "MySQL1"? What version of MySQL did you
actually install?

There was a reported problem with MySQL (running on Windows XP with Ver
14.7 Distrib 5.0.2-alpha, for Win95/Win98 (i32)) See various threads

Incidentally, that's probably a fruitful place to look for MySQL
information generally.

In short: ensure that you are installing the latest stable release for
your OS.

No - I meant MySQL. It's version 4.1.9
